But I can’t understand why everybody uses a Mac for DJing. I’m not a big fan of Mac, but I want the best for my DJing. Can you tell me what Macs have that make them so popular with DJs? What do they have that’s so special against Windows laptops?”Digital DJ Tips says:
What’s in the mix? With all due respect to vinyl junkies and CD stalwarts, when it comes to. Microsoft Pro 6 – 2-in-1 Laptop For DJs. Microsoft Pro 6. This is a flexible system. The 2015 MacBook Air is affordable these days and it packs quality specs that won’t struggle at all with any modern DJ software. Packing quality processors and a range of storage options, the only slight area of improvement is the RAM which is limited to 8GB. 8GB is still easily enough for current DJ software. Apple MacBook Air 13″ Highlights. Apple 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. That’s arguably the most popular laptop available.
Ah, the Mac vs PC question. As we teach at the start of How To Digital DJ Fast, many DJs choose Macs because they just want something to do the job needed to be done by a computer in a digital DJ set-up, something that does it with the minimum of fuss. Macs fit the bill, because OS X is often felt to be an easier operating system to use that Windows for non-expert users.Macbook For Djing
With a Mac you are guaranteed a high standard of construction, and they have universal audio drivers so you don’t need to mess around installing ASIO drivers to get your computer’s sound card to work with them, as you have to for some hardware when using it with a PC. Macs are also pretty much free of computer viruses, unlike Windows.
Having said that, Macs generally cost more than similarly specified PCs, and as you say they are not to everyone’s taste. If you prefer using Windows, can’t afford a Mac, and choose carefully, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t DJ with a PC – and many DJs do exactly that. After all, the actual components inside are often identical.
Wd discovery download windows 10. The bottom line is that DJs want absolute reliability, because their performances are mission-critical and they don’t want the computer part of the equation to let them down. In my view, that’s why those who can afford it tend to end up using Macs. But it’s by no means necessary to do so.
So, Mac vs PC. What model of computer and operating system do you use to DJ with? What made you make your choice? Have you ever switched from Mac to PC, or the other way? What made you do that? Please share your thoughts and experiences in the comments.you may also like

I’m going to be upgrading from an iPad to a Macbook and was curious if there were any particular models to go with over any other in regards to performance, durability, etc.? I’m going to be running it with a Traktor S2 Mk2 and Traktor Pro 2.
As long as it’s Core i5 or better (and dual core or better), with at least 4 gigs of RAM you’re fine.
An SSD and 8 gigs of RAM would be a worthy investment as well.
Yes anything past 2010 with an i5 will do.
For Traktor I also recommend 8 GB RAM.
An SSD is a bonus if you can afford it, get it.
But apart from that all modells work, from the Macbook Air to the Pros. There it all depends how much screen real estate you want. I went with a 15” Pro, as I like my screen to be big and the weight of the 15” is still OK in a Backpack where my controller is the most heavy thing…
I just got my mid 2012 MB Pro. It has an i7 quad core, 16GB and a 256GB SSD. And of course the Retina 15″ screen. It screeches through everything and the display is pleasingly sharp.
You should be fine with performance regardless of the model but avoid the newest ‘Macbook’ or any of the Macbook Airs which only have one USB port. You’ll want at least two USB ports. I got a new Macbook Pro 13″ last year with 512 SSD as I have a lot of music.
I love my 2012 MBP. I upgraded ram and added an ssd from owc. Their upgrade packages are stupid easy. I don’t much care about either retina or large screens which helped keep the price low. I went with the MBP over the air because you can’t upgrade the ram in an air. Sometimes I wish I would have just grabbed an air with 4 gigs of ram but at the time I thought both the hd and the ram were non-upgradable.
